The LAI has a number of sections and groups, all of whom wanted to be able to update their own bits of the LAI website. In 2005 the Executive Board decided to do something about this, and I came up with the idea of using WordPress to build the site.
The main reason for using a blogging platform was the out-of-the-box content management system. The two reasons for using WordPress were 1) I had used it previously and was very happy with it, and 2) it was free. A third reason was the fact that it was open source.
Originally I used the Daisy Rae Gemini theme being used on www.librarian.net, so thank you to Jessamyn!
The banner at the top was designed by Andrew Williams at Carton LeVert.Following the insertion of a link to the LAI 30boxes calendar in the sidebar, the design got messed around so I switched to the Terrafirma theme, using an amended version of the owl graphic. The site uses the fold page list plug-in to hide sub-pages on the home page.
It also uses the Flickr plug-in by Silas Partners.
