Welcome to the Library Association of Ireland’s website.

Founded in 1928, the LAI is the professional body representing libraries and librarianship in Ireland.

The objectives of the Library Association of Ireland are to promote and develop high standards of librarianship and of library and information services in Ireland, and to secure greater co-operation between libraries.

At the AGM on 11 March 2010, Siobhán Fitzpatrick (left) was re-elected President for a second term.

The Library Association of Ireland has awarded Honorary Fellowship to Professor John Dean, former head of the Department of Library and Information Studies at University College Dublin.

The presentation was made and an Extraordinary General Meeting, held in Pearse Street Library on 23rd October 2008.

Presenting Professor Dean with his citation, LAI President Deirdre Ellis-King spoke of Professor Dean’s seminal contribution to library education and professional practice in Ireland.

Teenage Kicks: library services to teenagers takes place in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, from 5th to 7th November. Among the speakers will be Irish authors Oisin McGann and Claire Hennessy, and child psychologist, television presenter and author David Coleman.
