Thanks to all the speakers at the Books are for Life conference in Galway on 3rd and 4th November. Here’s a selection of photographs.

 

 

The programme for the Public Libraries’ Section’s Books are for Life conference is now online.

With 11 conference sessions, 18 speakers, special trade sessions, and a visit to the new Tuam library, this year’s conference offers something for all public library staff.

We’re pleased to announce that that we are now taking bookings for this year’s Public Libraries’ Section Conference which takes place in the Galway Bay Hotel, from 2nd November to lunchtime on 4th November.

Our theme, ‘books are for life’, is central to the work of the public library service, and we are delighted to present a great line-up of speakers who will address this theme from a wide range of prespectives.

Among the speakers already confirmed are:

  • Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, TD;
  • Karen Cunningham, Head of Libraries at Glasgow City Council;
  • Fionnuala Hanrahan, President of the LAI;
  • Joe Woods of Poetry Ireland;
  • Julia Kingsford, Director of the World Boook Night project and
  • Authors Judi Curtin, Joe O’Brien, and Ava McCarthy.

galway signThe Public Libraries’ Section’s 2011 annual conference will take place in Galway, running from the evening of 2nd November to lunchtime on 4th November.

The conference theme is ‘books for life’, and among the topics to be addressed will be the future of the book, and by extension the future of ebooks, publishing, and the whole publishing and reading world.

The venue and the preliminary programme will be announced soon.
